Why do I need MyTravelAccess?

Travelers have a few options for getting connected and accessing email on the road. Below is an overview of your options and how MyTravelAccess fits in with your plans

Hotel Broadband Connection

Many hotels offer high-speed Internet access, usually for an additional charge. The benefits are the convenience and speed of the connection. The drawbacks are the additional cost, which is usually a fixed price per day regardless of how much you use it, and the fact that it is occasionally not available due to technical reasons-something that you won't know until you are there and need to use the service! So even if you plan on using a hotel's high-speed connection, consider getting MyTravelAccess as a sure-fire back-up.

While some may argue that dial up is slower than the high speed access offered by hotels, you must also take into consideration that you are sharing that access with other users in the hotel and that may affect your connection.

Some hotels have restrictions on their Internet access which allow you to receive e-mail, but you are not able to send e-mail. If you use MyTravelAccess as your ISP, you still have that ability. It is no different than using your home computer to access the Internet.

Why use MyTravelAccess?

  • It's a great back up in case the hotel connection is not available
  • You are familiar with MyTravelAccess and how we operate. You don't have to use multiple unfamiliar hotel networks.
  • Configuring your laptop or mobile device can be done before you leave.
  • You can use it when you want to make a quick connection and don't need to pay for access for the entire day
  • Use broadband when it's available, and use MyTravelAccess when it's not

Wi-Fi Hotspots

Many coffee shops and fast food restaurants offer Wi-Fi connections, usually for a small additional fee. These connections are convenient for those who have a wireless card and will not need to stay connected for a long time. Remember, this connection is only available in that particular location, so when you're ready to go back to the hotel or to the next destination, your access will not be traveling with you. Also, note that wireless connections may not be appropriate for accessing sensitive information unless you have your system properly secured. Always talk to an IT professional before accessing sensitive information in this type of environment.

Usualy dial up is slower than the Wifi access, but you must also take into consideration that you are sharing that access with other users in that WiFi hotspot and this will affect your connection. The guy next to you can be downloading Start Wars III and cloggin the connection for all.

Some WiFi hotspots have restrictions on their Internet access which allow you to receive e-mail, but you are not able to send e-mail. If you use MyTravelAccess as your ISP, you still have that ability from anywhere.

Why use MyTravelAccess?

  • Your Internet access travels with you so you can get connected from any location
  • You are familiar with MyTravelAccess and how we operate. You don't have to use multiple unfamiliar WiFi networks.
  • Configuring your laptop or mobile device can be done before you leave.
  • Use a Wi-Fi hotspot when it's available, and use MyTravelAccess when it's not
